A longstanding Chicago icon, the Field Museum of Natural History’s mission is closely aligned with the goals of 4S Bay: a commitment to seeing change in our lifetime. While the Field is best known for the almost “40 million specimens and artifacts” in its collection, the museum is equally devoted to boldly enriching communities for the preservation of our planet.

Director of Principal & Major Gifts, Katie Baltensperger, shares that, “There’s been an arc of things, in large part due to Jessica’s influence, to more holistically pull those Diversity, Equity, Advocacy, and Inclusion efforts […] and infuse it through every area of the museum.” Jessica’s partnership with the Field focuses on these transformative practices, particularly championing new ways to tell stories about our shared history.

The Sarowitz’s lead support of Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories exemplifies this commitment. The permanent exhibition opened in May of 2022. Connected through historical and contemporary Indigenous stories, Native Truths “breaks the mold of a traditional exhibition” by encouraging visitors to engage with personal accounts. The exhibition exemplifies Jessica’s commitment to, in her own words, “Highlighting and empowering authentic, marginalized voices by giving them a chance to share their stories.”

As Charles Katzenmeyer, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, frames Jessica’s involvement: “Jessica leads in so many different facets of the museum. […] And she brings that thoughtful perspective to all those places.” The Field Museum’s keen ability to push the boundaries of storytelling about the world around us is one of the many reasons Jessica is honored to support its steadfast work.

The Field Museum recently held its annual Gala, hosted by the Women’s Board and the Board of Trustees on October 19, 2024.
